Mashujaa Award
Community based organization contribute to development process of our country as primary development partners for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals that constitute a trans formative, integrated and universal vision for a sustainable future.
Sustainable Development Goals award will honor community driven projects and acknowledge the contribution of NGOs private sector, government and developed partners contributing to community led projects.
The award ceremony will enhance interaction with communities and acknowledge the urgent need for alternative resource mobilization to support community projects for successful implementation of sustainable development goals.
The initiative will tap to the untapped potential of the communities by recognizing them and primary contributed to develop not just view has consumers and beneficiary of programs.
Mashujaa awards will go beyond the normal recognition of the heroes who struggled for our independence. The organization recognize such immense support towards the peace we enjoy today and salute the great leader. The award team will continue to progressive identify them and ask the government to consider them during the presidential awards ceremony.
The organization explore the need to acknowledge the unsung , who struggle each day top liberate Kenyans from extreme poverty, struggle for better education, suffer from poor health infrastructure, unemployment, poor infrastructure, struggle to embrace gender equality, affected by climate change and amidst all the challenges informal and formal organizing themselves to local address their challenges with limited support
Rational
The award initiative by the national council of community-based organizations will provide a platform to showcase the community-led programs and inform the government on the challenges and gaps toward the successful implementation of sustainable development goals.
Mashujaa award will reduce duplication of activities in regions already implementation SDGs through a profile of various initiatives at the community level and areas that need urgent attention. The organization will pilot viable ideas to other regions and through the support of development, partner replicates the ideas to other regions. The appreciation to the community will recognize the efforts of such organizations and individuals who are not recognized at the national level.
The award program will provide a platform to showcase programs by a community-based organizations, individuals already geared towards accelerating the gains of millennium development goals and accelerating the momentum for sustainable development goals implementation.
Objectives
To galvanize community support and build momentum towards the implementation of sustainable development goals.
To enable the community to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the development programs for social accountability.
Recognize the resilient of community-led programs that gear towards the implementation of sustainable development goals.
To enhance a platform for sharing information on community-led programs among the private sector, civil society, and development partners.
Sustainability
Enhance the role of corporate social responsibility towards supporting community-led programs through providing technical support to already identified projects.
Galvanize support for scaling up identified innovative ideas.
Promote and showcase such initiatives through media engagement and urge citizens to contribute to the implementation of sustainable development goals.
The organization will establish a seed fund from resources raised during the event to incubate and support the selected initiative for technical support.
Use data and accountability to fast track the implementation of Sustainable development goals by the government
Methodology.
Criteria for selection.
The award will be honored to community-led programs through a voting process. The community will be able to identify programs implemented by the county government, national government that have successfully and adopted the fundamental principle of sustainable development goals.
Modality
The award shall be evaluated by a jury of judges comprising of civil society organizing private sector, government, media, and development partners. The award shall consider the innovative ideas with key focus on local resource mobilization, the success of the program and its viability to replicate to other regions.
Voting Process
The voting process will be open for the public online and offline through SMS after the shortlisting of viable community lead initiatives with focus on various categories of sustainable development goals by the jury of judges.
The public through People Choice Award will also vote for the Sustainable development goal male and female personality of the year, national and county government agency best program, award NGO, recognize the best cooperate social responsibility program and honor the support of development partners supporting the implementation of SDGs.
Implementation
National Council of Community Based Organization (NCCBO) is a registered non-government, non-profit, non-political organization formed under the societies act. The organization is a network of different grassroots community-based organizations.
The organization envisions transforming grassroots organizations into climate-conscious, wealth-creation engines that will propel the rural and urban-slums community to achieve sustainable social-economic development, self-reliance, and education for sustainability.
The Mashujaa award program will be implemented with the support of well-wishers, the private sector, and government and development partners. The event is scheduled at Museums of Kenya on the 21st of October 2017. The event expects to attract local 500 guests and 50 international guests.
